When it comes to Austria we think of nature, mountains and hiking! We loved Tirol, Stubai and Salzburgerland !
Vienna was not so much for us, but we guess it really depends on what you are looking for. City lovers might fall in love with Vienna, as we do as nature lovers with the nature sights! Try a Sacher Torte (cake) . Its delicious if you like chocolate with a light flavour of jam to it.Of course a vienna schnitzel is a must too!
The largest ice cave system in the world in Werfen in Salzburgerland are really worth a visit. Its impressive! Take warm cloths though!
The Großglockner high alpine road is just stunning and at the end of it is a beautiful hike. Take some water when you do the hike! We underestimated how long it would take to climb down and up again.
In Stubai take a cabel car up the Stubai Glacier and enjoy the stunning view over the mountains, or go skiing. There is lots of other stuff one can do over there! Austria is a real beauty for nature lovers!
Ehrwald in Tirol is beautiful and quiet in the off season. We enjoyed our accomodation at Sonnblick very much. Dinner at the Winelounge in Leermos was yummy.
Make sure the make a reservation.
In Ischgl we went on a Skyfly ride. It starts at Silvretta cable car and you get to the middle station for 12 Euros. From there you walk aound the building where you will find the SkyFly office. For 39 Euros you can go on an Adrenalin ride through nature. We enjoyed it!

In Tirol on the Fernpass you will also find the Fernsteinsee Castle! Its a fairytale castle with a beautiful lake where you can do a round trip for about a 30 min walk. My h6sband proposed here when he surpriced me for a weekend surprice trip 2016! So to us this is a special place!
Recommendation:
Hire a car and travel aound yourself! The landscape is beautiful. Also, rather not use the highways. Use countryside roads, take your time and enjoy the view.
When it comes to food try the desserts Germknödel, Kaiserschmarrn and Palatschinken and for main have a taste of the Tirol Spinach Knödel in melted butter. Sure, not healty food. Very oily and sugary, but on holidays we should enjoy and try local food 😉
